*Algebra I is available. Qualified students are identified by a Spring testing program and teacher's recommendation. Parents of these students will be notified of their placement at a later date. Students qualifying for advanced math will be placed in Algebra I for their eighth grade math course.
Art
In this one semester, seventh and eighth grade class, students learn some basic principles necessary to begin to draw the world around them realistically. Students will also study selected periods of art from the last two centuries and create their own art in these traditions.
Art Exploration
In this one semester class, students will explore basic principles of art through drawing, painting, printing, and the creation of multimedia projects. This class can be selected as a year long course.
Blue Band
Fundamentals, basic skills, and attention to detail on one's instrument serve as the spring board to future musical success in this yearlong elective. Students must have one year of band experience to join the blue band. A variety of musical literature selections throughout the year ranging from classical, to pop, to multi-cultural songs are performed.
Computer Art
A computer-lab seventh and eighth grade course, one semester long, designed to explore and create art with some cool software and the click of a mouse.
Gold Band
Instrumental development continues in the yearlong elective. Students must have two years of band experience or instructor approval to join the gold band. Students play music ranging from Boogie to Bach and perform with the band at concerts and festivals..
Middle School Yearbook
This Fall-Semester class will make a middle school yearbook by using digital cameras and desktop software.
Multimedia Technology
This Spring-Semester class will explore different ways of creating multimedia using various forms of technology including digital images, music, and video using the iLife applications, as well as other software.
Music For Worship
In this one semester course students will learn how to communicate through music in a fun and exciting way. Students will make worship come alive as they accompany and/or lead songs for middle school chapel. Sixth grade students can select this as a year long course.
Physical Education
Fitness, skills, and sport awareness characterize the emphasis of this one semester PE class. This class can be selected as a year long course.
Podcasting Plus
Students taking this one semester only class would be involved in creating podcasts and other multimedia projects that can be published online and/or used by students and faculty in the school.
Robotics
Learning the operation and then building a computer-generated machine make up this exciting one semester class. This class can be selected as a year long course.
Studio Art
In this one semester class students will explore advanced elements and principles of art. A weekly sketchbook homework assignment will be required. This class can be selected as a year long course.
Study Hall
Quiet, self-motivating, teacher-monitored study describes this one semester traditional offering. This class can be selected as a year long course.
Talk of the Town
This one semester spring only course explores the current events of our “town” while practicing some speaking skills at the same time. Students will enjoy the newspaper, internet and magazines while they polish up their speeches! Join us for conversations about the world around us!
